Panzani Group, based in Lyon, is the leader in the French pasta market, accounting for almost a third of market share. In June 2023, the group revealed its decarbonization ambitions, with a roadmap covering all scopes 1, 2 and 3. Although scopes 1 and 2 account for only 3% of its overall carbon emissions, Panzani has set itself the target of reducing emissions from its industrial sites by 90% by 2050, with a first step of -47% in 2030, compared with 2019 emissions levels, i.e. 11,800 tonnes of CO2 eq. avoided per year.
Panzani called on Naldeo Technologies et Industries to help it achieve this ambitious vision. The first challenge was to draw up a precise inventory of production sites and the associated productivity challenges. The audit of production sites enabled an exhaustive mapping of CO2-generating items. Next, we had to devise technical solutions that would meet Panzani's decarbonization challenges, while guaranteeing the same level of performance and availability for the sites. And all this against a backdrop of highly volatile energy prices and new regulatory constraints at European level.
After an exhaustive analysis of technical solutions and their financial impact, Naldeo proposed to Panzani the 3 most relevant scenarios for achieving the decarbonization objectives of each of its production sites. Given the limitations of the technical solutions available, Naldeo also recommended the integration of a Power Purchase Agreement for renewable energies, to achieve a reduction target of 13,000 tCO2/year tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year.
